On Monday February 22, 2010, students from the High School for Recording Arts received a $100,000 Youth Advisory Board grant from State Farm Insurance. The students worked over the summer to write the grant and their hard work paid off. The students will use the grant money to work with Gillette Children’s Hospital, KS95 94.5FM and 963 Now 96.3FM on a campaign called “Ready For The Road”. The Campaign will be about eliminating driving distractions through awareness and new legislation. Congratulations to all the students at HSRA for their outstanding work and accomplishments.

Lube-Tech Supports HSRA with Curriculum

and Web Development

Lube-Tech owners Chris and Marna Bame came to HSRA on Wednesday to present a check for $25,000. Also present were Tonny Heideman, who originally contacted HSRA about this opportunity, Rich Greig, and Eric Jackson of Lube Tech and Social Venture Partners.

HSRA is extremely moved by this community support and we look forward to developing our partnership with Lube-Tech!

Wynton Marsalis Meets with HSRA Students

Chantel, Cory, and Brandon are pictured here with Wynton Marsalis and HSRA founder, T.C. Ellis and Outreach Director Tony Simmons. Wynton was in town promoting his tour with the Lincoln Center Orchestra and the new CD, “Portrait in Seven Shades”. In November, HSRA students performed with Wynton’s brother, Delfeayo Marsalis, at the Dakota Jazz Club.

High School for the Recording Arts students, parents, staff, friends, and supporters turned out for a magical evening of celebration and fundraising. It started with pre-party at Brit’s Pub sponsored by LubeTech and moved into full gear at the Dakota with Barbara Appelbaum Portnoy and J.D. Steele with Delfeayo Marsalis.

HSRA upgrades to Pro Tools 8

HSRA upgrades to Pro Tools 8. Thanks to David Kingsbury and Tre Kubeyinje for all of their hard tech work. Students will return to school to see what father winter has put under the studio tree. Studio A and B receive big upgrades to Pro Tools 8. These new upgrades will allow more production power for each studio and allow students to transfer files back and forth between both systems.

Bizzy Bone Records @ Studio 4

Bryan McCane, known as Bizzy Bone from Multi-Platinum Grammy Award winning hip hop group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, dropped past Studio 4 last month to work with HSRA Alumni Donte Suttle aka Humble Child. ”Man this is a professional studio,” Bizzy said before recording with another HSRA graduate, Clinton Cordero aka Arsoniss, on a song called “Welcome 2 Church”. Then they recorded “Who Created You,” a song dedicated to spirituality. Later that night Donte performed in Duluth, MN with Bizzy Bone.
